Agia Anna, Amorgos. One of the most popular beaches on the island of Amorgos is Agia Anna, located east of Amorgos Town (Chora Amorgos). But the beach itself is not that special. It is the environment that makes it so attractive. It is located down the slopes of steep, bare rock massifs. The sandy pebble beach is not so great. But, once at the beach, the beautiful turquoise color of the sea, the impressive cliffs and the rugged beauty of the natural surroundings will enchant you. The beach owes its name to the eponymous chapel that lies 100 meters from here. If you dive into the water and swim a few meters into the sea there is a dramatic drop and it may suddenly be 20 meters (65 feet) deep. The beautiful environment could be the reason that in 1988 the filmmakers of "The Big Blue" chose to come here to film movie scenes. The beach of Agia Anna is accessible from Amorgos town (3.5 km/2 mi) using a narrow asphalted road that is full of sharp turns. Above the beach, on the slopes of the mountain, there is a cafeteria where food can be ordered. The cafeteria, called "The Big Blue," is named after the film. From here you have fantastic views over the rugged coastline and the beautiful sea.
